Principal

Hi, I'm Danie! I trained as a professional dancer & teacher, I have a Masters degree in teaching dance and an associate qualification for teaching salsa. I have taught & performed around the world and trained with some of the world's top salsa teachers including Eddie Torres, Franklin Diaz, Frankie Martinez, Karel Flores & Delia Madera.

I love salsa's ability to bring people together. Because it's a partner dance it's much easier to get to know people than in your typical dance class. It's fun and a great antidote to the stresses and strains of busy modern life. When you are dancing salsa you have to be present in the moment, so you can't be worrying about anything else, a fab form of mindfulness! If yoga and meditation aren't your thing, salsa just might be the thing you need to relax! (And if they are your thing don't let that stop you - I love all 3!)

FAQS

I've tried to answer some of the most common questions here, but if you still have unanswered questions, please get in touch!

WHAT IF I'VE NEVER DANCED BEFORE/ GOT TWO LEFT FEET?

Lots of people worry about this, but honestly in over 20 years of teaching I've never found someone who can't pick up the basic salsa steps in their first class. We have small classes so you can work at your own pace and re-cap anything as needed. Learning is much easier when you're having fun, so come along and give it a go, and you'll probably surprise yourself!

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A PARTNER TO COME WITH?

No problem! You can come alone or with a friend. Even i f you come with a partner I always encourage people to rotate partners in class. This is the best way to learn to dance salsa and also makes it much more sociable and easy to get to know each other.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

No need for sequinned outfits here, although if that's your vibe then go for it! Most people wear something casual like jeans or leisure wear, some people like to take the opportunity to dress up a little more. It's really about what you're comfortable in. I would say avoid very short skirts/ dresses or things that restrict your movement.

The most important part is your footwear - again no need for dance shoes as a beginner, although you may want to invest in some as you progress, but initially the most important thing is a smooth sole - leather is perfect. Trainers that are not too grippy are fine. Mostly avoid anything clumpy like heavy boots / rubber soles. If you choose to wear heels I would avoid super high stilettos and opt for something with an ankle strap so it won't slip off your heel when dancing.
